Dr. Boada presents her doctoral thesis “Evaluation of the efficacy of treatment with the stromal vascular fraction in patients with osteoarthritis of the knee: an experimental study with a control group”.
On Wednesday 19 June, Dr. Boada will defend her doctoral thesis entitled “Evaluation of the efficacy of treatment with the stromal vascular fraction in patients with osteoarthritis of the knee: an experimental study with a control group” at the University of Andorra. The doctor from the medical team of Celular Clinic has been studying the effectiveness of treatment with mesenchymal cells in the pathology of osteoarthritis of the knee for more than five years. The thesis evaluates the therapeutic effect of the vascular stromal fraction (Celstem treatment) in 70 knees and compares it with a group of patients (control group) who, despite being candidates for treatment, did not receive it. The work consisted of analysing the changes in pain and functional status of the patient before and up to one year after treatment. In addition, the magnetic resonance images taken before the treatment were compared with the images taken after one year, in order to measure and evaluate the changes that the cartilage underwent after the Celstem treatment. The doctoral thesis was co-directed by the renowned biologist Dr. Anna Veiga Lluch and the rehabilitation doctor, Dr. Mercè Avellanet Viladomat, also a member of the medical team of Celular Clinic Andorra.
